'The Lion's Den' script- episode one

Episode one of ‘The Lion’s Den’- Speak up and be proud!

Introduction (Sophie)- Hey! Welcome to our first episode of a brand new podcast, celebrating the power of our voices as students, ‘The Lion’s Den!’ We want you all to feel empowered and strong enough to use your voice to your advantage and prove our capabilities. I’m Sophie, your host and it’s time to welcome you into the den! Alongside me, I have the lovely Lana and Earl. It’s time to meet the team. For me, feminism is my main drive of my passion to make our voices heard and I believe through the power of the student voice, the reality of an equal future is more likely for us all to experience. We are the next generation and the key to the future. So guys, what does student voice mean to you?

Lana- views on student voice (any other comments and insights from Sophie and Earl)

Earl- views on student voice (comments from Lana and Sophie- fluency)

Sophie- It is clear to show how key we are in the future and we are all going to make sure you too feel this power! In this episode, I want to prove to you how influential you can be too and persuade you all to stand up for what you want your future to look like. So, what do you guys believe is key in needing to be solved in order for us as a generation to feel more confident in speaking out and using our voices?

Earl- views and opinions (Lana and Sophie also makes comments)

Lana- opinions on what needs to be solved (Earl and Sophie show their opinions to this too)

Sophie- For me, I despise the sterotype of teenagers being seen as ‘lazy and rude’. If we break this down, more people will see our true power. We are becoming more reluctant to speak up due to this assumption which as no truth in it at all!

CNS is incredible in making every student feel heard and acknowledged, but we all have our own ways of proving our potential. So, if you had ten minutes to show somebody your power, how would you do this?

Lana- interests and ways of expressing voice

Earl- voicing opinions

Sophie- We can clearly see the celebration of diversity we have at CNS and for me, EXiA has allowed me to prove my voice. In last year’s edition, I wrote an article on women in sport and another one on sweatshops, allowing me to shout out. We all need to be a voice, not an echo!

History has greatly influenced my perception of the power of my voice and figures throughout time have been key in this. If you could create a dinner party of three figures who have inspired you to speak up, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Earl- his three figures

Lana- her three figures

Sophie- Personally, I would invite Margaret Atwood. She is inspirational and warns us all of what our society could suffer from it we don’t address feminism and gender discrimination soon. Next, it would have to be Olly Alexander. I recently went to his concert and fell in love with his confidence and power to show who he truly is, without worrying about the opinions of others. Another inspiration for me is Nelly London. She breaks down the fear of moving away from beauty standards and proves the beauty of the individual.

If you could sum up the power of the voice in one sentence and leave our listeners with one final thought, what would you say?

Lana- opinions and quotes

Earl- opinions and views

Sophie- For me, it is easily summed up as ‘nothing strengthens authority so much as silence. If you don’t do it now, then when? Don’t let your voice be wasted, because, soon , it will be too late.

Thank you so much for tuning in to our first episode and I hope you all feel inspired to make your own change from this! Come take another visit to the den in our next episode as we explore mental health and what you can do to ensure those endorphins remain sky high!

Lana and Earl- send off and thanks

Sophie- And remember that ‘it always seems impossible’. Let your voice roar today and see the power of it tomorrow!
