BBC Radio One's 'Minute of Me' script

Hey, I’m Sophie and I am a feminist, but why do I feel apprehensive to admit this sometimes? People immediately assume that being a feminist is wanting the ‘superiority of women’, when in fact, I want a future where our next generation do not know what it feels like to be discriminated against due to their sex. I am a feminist because I want to break down the expectations both sexes face. I want women to not fear or be paid less for being seen as ‘forceful’ at work or feel as if they need to be ‘lady like’ and I want men to not feel as if they ‘can’t cry’ or must be the ‘protector of the pack’. Feminism is about recognising the inequalities both sexes face and combating these together. When we break these stereotypes down, the equality of access and opportunities can blossom, and people can see the true beauty of feminism.
