The Story of Willow Hair Studio
Black Barn Farm Salhouse Marketplace: a family of small businesses that celebrate the beauty of the independent community across Norfolk.
Built on passion, dedication and a collection of unique stories, the marketplace offers an abundance of handmade and unique products and services.
Tom Arger and Curtis Daynes, Managers of Black Barn Farm Salhouse Marketplace, continue to offer many incredible opportunities for local businesses to flourish, including pop-up stalls, permanent shops, popular farmers markets and their new initiative, The Nest.
Earlier this year, Willow Hair Studio joined the family at Black Barn Farm Marketplace. The studio, which is open seven days a week, offers a range of elegant haircuts and styles that will help boost your confidence, self-esteem and expression.
Not only does the studio offer a relaxed atmosphere, allowing you to switch off from the worries of everyday life, but you can also take a stroll around the shops and treat yourself to a delicious brunch afterwards (the perfect self-care day!).
I caught up with Vicky, the Owner of Willow Hair Studio, to discover the journey of the studio so far, how it feels to be part of the community at Black Barn Farm and their plans for the year ahead!
What inspired you to open The Willow Hair Studio (how did your experience in hairdressing help with this)?
I was inspired to open Willow Hair Studio because I have wanted to open my own studio for a long time.
When I was 21, I opened my own studio but I was very young and things were so different back then!
The Hair and Beauty business has grown so much and I wanted to create my own world of Hairdressing through my own business and create a beautiful team!
What are you most looking forward to about running your own studio?
I am most looking forward to working with my new team and meeting lots of new clients.
I’m also excited to work aside other amazing businesses at Black Barn Farm.
Describe The Willow Hair Studio in three words!
Friendly, Experienced and Professional.
How important are the relationships you create with clients (and how do you aim to make them feel when they come to the salon)?
My clients’ relationships are very important to me.
I listen to them and sometimes it can be a therapy session too! I love to create meaningful experiences. I have many loyal clients and hope to create some new client relationships.
I don’t know about you, but getting a fresh haircut and colour gives me a confidence boost to take on the day! What power do you think a new haircut/ style can have?
A haircut strengthens your hair and your mind!
Social media can often bombard people with the latest ‘hair trends’ and products to use. How does the team at The Willow Hair Studio cut through this noise to help educate/ inform clients?
We plan to create educational posts on our social media regarding hair care.
How does it feel to be located at Black Barn Farm, alongside several other local businesses?
Being at Black Barn is one of our favourite parts of having the salon.
The location is amazing and the community is so welcoming. We are extremely grateful to be here. We also love to support the other businesses.
What was the biggest challenge you faced while launching The Willow Hair Studio (and how did you overcome this)?
Our biggest challenge was definitely the renovation!
We are very particular about our interior design and let’s say it paid off!
My sister, Sam, was the interior designer, helping us all the way from America! My nephew, William, did all the renovations, who is rather a perfectionist and did a brilliant job!
How important is it to support independent businesses in the hair and beauty industry (and what do you love most about the local scene)?
It’s extremely important to support small businesses in the hair and beauty industry because we all learn off each other.
We have another beauty studio (Norfolk HQ) just around the corner from us who specialise in nails, waxing, piercings and massages etc.
What keeps you motivated during challenging times in the role?
I am motivated by my love for working with hair. I’ve been a hairdresser for 36 years and have never dreamt of doing anything else.
What plans do you have for 2026?
Our plans for 2026 are to keep busy and create a happy and friendly environment for people to have their hair recreated!
