Kind Coffee: Creating a Coffee Community Filled With Kindness

Some people may say that I’m obsessed with visiting coffee shops (I call it supporting the independent community!). But, to me, stepping into a café can help silence the outside world.

From the relaxing music to the comforting sound of overlapping conversations, cafes provide a space to relax and switch off.

Whether you’re grabbing a coffee and pastry on the way to work, catching up with friends or making a pit stop on a dog walk, visiting a café provides us with a moment of calm amidst a life of chaos.

Earlier this year, I discovered Kind Coffee. Nestled on the outskirts of Norwich, this café embraces a positive outlook, creating an atmosphere overflowing with kindness, joy and good vibes! Whether you fancy trying a new coffee or food that looks too good to eat, Kind Coffee is your perfect spot to escape from the stress and pressure of everyday life.

I recently spoke to Hannah, the General Manager of Kind Coffee, to discover the inspiration behind her incredible menu, the journey of Kind Coffee and their plans for the future!

When did you join Kind Coffee (and what drew you to the role/ vision)?

I joined Kind Coffee in the weeks leading up to its opening in September 2024.

I was drawn to the vision the owners shared of creating a welcoming space for the local Norwich community, while delivering a high quality service and experience to everyone who walks through our doors.

Describe the café in three words!

Three words I’d use to describe Kind Coffee are quality, community and kindness.

Where do you look for inspiration for new food and drink ideas?

Both myself and the team are chronically online, so I’d be lying if I said we didn’t take inspiration from coffee shops and cafés all over the world!

At the same time, a lot of what we do comes from within the team. We’ve had plenty of brainstorming sessions together and get really excited about creating seasonal specials.

What impact do you aim to have on those that visit Kind Coffee?

The impact we aim to have is simply a reliable, enjoyable and welcoming experience that makes everyone feel safe and valued.

How important are the relationships you create with customers?

The relationship we have with our customers is hugely important, not just as a business but on a personal level too.

Seeing our regulars makes our days smoother and more enjoyable, and being able to make someone’s day is a real boost for all of us. It’s something I really care about continuing to nurture.

How important are your collaborations with fellow independent businesses?

We’ve loved working with our local suppliers since day one.

Supporting other independents is such an important part of who we are. It helps strengthen the community and keeps it vibrant rather than taken over by large chains.

We’re really lucky in Norwich and Norfolk to have such a strong network of small businesses supporting each other, which has helped us grow, especially through collaborations with local favourites like Bakeaholics.

In a world that seems to be burdened by negativity, how important is kindness and positivity (and how does Kind Coffee embrace this)?

Kindness and positivity are at the core of Kind Coffee, and I don’t think we’d be who we are in the community without them.

The world can feel quite disheartening at times, and all we want to offer is a moment of calm. A space where people can switch off, slow down and feel welcome.

I’d like to think that’s something we’ve achieved and continue to build on.

For me, going out for a coffee is my excuse to catch up with friends, take my dog out for a walk or explore a new area. What power do you believe good food/ drink has?

I really believe that good food, good drink and good company can solve most things.

Whether you’re celebrating, commiserating or just getting through the work day, it’s important to have somewhere you can step away from outside pressures. If we can be that space for people, that’s even better.

Many people view hospitality as ‘not a real job or career’ and can look down on those that work in the industry. What do you love most about working in this industry (and how can we help to tackle this stereotype)?

I’ve definitely felt the idea that hospitality isn’t a “real career”, and I held that mindset myself for a long time.

It actually took stepping away from the industry to change my perspective. Hospitality offers flexibility and a sense of presence that you don’t always get in more corporate environments.

It can be whatever someone needs it to be, whether that’s a supplementary income, a stepping stone, or a long-term career.

For me, I thrive in a fast paced, people focused environment, and once I realised that, I fully embraced it.

As long as a job keeps you happy, engaged and paying the bills, that’s what matters.

How important has social media been for the growth of your business?

Social media has definitely helped get us on people’s radar and widen our reach, including connecting with suppliers.

That said, it’s just as much about the team and the consistency we bring every day. Social media might bring people in, but it’s the experience that keeps them coming back.

What plans do you have for 2026?

For the rest of 2026, we’re planning some semi regular workshops with a lovely local business called Little Craft Hut. And as for the menu, watch this space for some exciting summer and autumn specials!

Kind Coffee’s Clay Creations workshop with Little Craft Hut will be taking place on Sunday 2nd August! To grab your tickets, you can head to –
