Inside the World of Macie Nyah
I don’t know about you, but my mood for the day is driven by what I listen to while I’m making my breakfast, getting ready and driving to work.
Amidst the chaos of the world, I can always rely on music for a pick-me-up!
And, for me, there is always one artist I have on repeat to make sure I feel happy, confident and ready to take on the world: Macie Nyah.
Just over a year ago, I spoke to Macie about her journey as a musician so far, the challenges of the music industry and the power she believes music holds.
Following a spectacular summer of festivals, awards and music, I caught up with her ahead of the release of her new single, ‘Boyfriend’, which comes out on the 10th of October!
How are you feeling ahead of the release of 'Boyfriend'?
Feeling a little nervous because you never know how it will be received, especially as an independent artist, but I am SO excited for the new release.
It’s been almost a year since I put music out and as soon as we wrote this one, I knew that it would be my next single.
If you could choose three words to describe this new song, what would you choose?
Cheeky, playful and unforgettable!
How did it feel to win the Pop Award at the NMG Awards 2025?
I am feeling over the moon since winning the Pop Award at the NMG Awards! It’s my first ever award and so it was really special.
To be recognised for making the music that I love is an honour and it was such a joyous evening!
How important are these awards to the East Anglian music scene?
I love that it brings together a room full of local, crazy talented musicians in different genres who perhaps wouldn’t otherwise often cross paths.
A lot of the big award shows are centred primarily around pop music and so it’s a great opportunity to shine the spotlight on people who might go under your radar. I think that’s really important as it reminds us of our similarities and that ultimately we are all probably trying to do the same thing.
It also allows you to meet so many of the people you’ve seen online and have real life conversations which I think strengthens that community feel.
What did you love most about performing over the summer?
My summer performances this year were super special, two in particular being my first ever headline show in London and then the Rock N Roll Circus in Norwich.
They both brought together everyone that I love, from both of my homes, and so the crowds felt so warm and supportive which really is always the cherry on the cake for me when I perform.
How do you connect to your audience when performing?
Audience connection is a really important thing for me to achieve when I perform because a big part of my personality can also be found in my music and so I want that to be a cohesive piece.
I’m very open and honest on stage, I don’t particularly give myself a script, I say whatever I feel in the moment and I think people connect well with that.
What has been your most memorable performance to date?
I think my most memorable performance to date has to be the Rock N Roll Circus this summer.
Playing before pop legends that have inspired me (Olly Murs and Pixie Lott!) was absolutely mind-blowing and not on my bingo card for this year!
My mum was also in the audience and she is my harshest, most honest critic, and she told me that it’s the best she’d ever seen me perform, so I also took that as a major win!
