How Let It Glow Captures the Magic of Christmas

Christmas has always been my favourite time of year. Whether it’s playing family board games after stuffing yourself silly at Christmas dinner, or exploring the Christmas markets with a hot chocolate in hand, this time of year is magical.

For as long as I can remember, one of my favourite festive activities to do was to take a stroll around my village and admire the array of Christmas lights and displays. I don’t know about you, but I have always thought the glow of twinkle lights warms the dark and cold evenings.

I recently caught up with the team behind Let It Glow, a beautiful light trail that will be taking place at Caistor Hall between the 27th of November to the 23rd of December, to discover how they have created a winter wonderland!

What inspired you to create ‘Let it Glow’?

We are Great Events; an event production team and we absolutely love playing with lights to transform natural settings and trees into a magical new world!

We were inspired by the idea of transforming the beautiful woodland at Caistor Hall into an enchanting world of light, colour and festive wonder.

Norfolk has an incredible creative community and a love for winter traditions, so we wanted to bring a brand-new experience to the season — something immersive, uplifting and completely unique to our region.

Let It Glow is our way of capturing the joy, warmth and sparkle that everyone looks for at this time of year.

What do you hope to achieve through this event?

Our ambition is to create a winter experience that becomes a new Norfolk tradition — a place where families, friends and couples can come together, make memories and enjoy the magic of Christmas in a calm and beautiful natural setting.

We also hope to support local artists and suppliers, boost the local economy, and add something truly special to the county’s festive calendar.

Who can attend Let it Glow?

Let It Glow is for everyone - families with little ones, groups of friends, couples on a festive date night, and anyone who enjoys lights, nature and a little seasonal escapism.

The trail is suitable for all ages and offers a relaxed, accessible, feel-good evening out.

Dress warmly and wear sensible footwear as much of the trail is a woodchip pathway through the woods.

What can we look forward to at this winter wonderland?

Visitors can expect a glowing 1km woodland trail filled with illuminated sculptures, vibrant colour, atmospheric lighting, and enchanting installations that transform the grounds of Caistor Hall into a magical night-time landscape.

There will be cosy festive touches too — seasonal treats, warm drinks, and plenty of picture-perfect moments to capture and share.

How important is it to support the local artistic community in Norfolk (and how have you done this through your event?)

Supporting Norfolk’s creative community is at the heart of Let It Glow.

We’ve collaborated with local artists, lighting designers, production teams, and suppliers to bring the trail to life.

Norfolk is full of incredible talent, and we feel strongly that large-scale events should champion and invest in the region’s artistic and creative industries.

By keeping our team local, we’re not only supporting livelihoods but also showcasing the creativity that makes Norfolk so special.

How are you feeling ahead of opening night on the 27th of November?

A mixture of excitement, pride and those wonderful pre-launch butterflies!

Seeing months of planning come together as the trails light up for the first time is incredibly rewarding.

We can't wait to welcome our first visitors and see their reactions — that’s always the moment it truly feels real.

What challenges have you faced when creating your event?

Creating an outdoor winter event always comes with challenges — everything from weatherproofing to managing uneven woodland terrain to installing intricate lighting across a large natural landscape.

We’ve worked closely with experienced technicians, safety teams and creative specialists to ensure every detail is tested, secure and guest friendly.

Careful planning, local expertise and a lot of teamwork have helped us turn challenges into part of the journey.

How important do you believe colour and lights are to the festive season?

Light is the heart of Christmas — it brings warmth, hope and togetherness during the darkest days of the year. Colour adds the joy, the celebration, the sense of magic.

Together they transform ordinary spaces into festive worlds. That emotional impact is exactly why Let It Glow exists: light has a way of lifting spirits, sparking imagination and bringing people together.

What does Let it Glow bring to the Christmas season in Norfolk?

Let It Glow offers something brand-new for the area: a fully immersive, artist-led, woodland light trail set in the stunning grounds of Caistor Hall.

It’s a festive experience that is serene, beautiful and designed to be enjoyed by all.

Rather than a busy city-centre setting, visitors can enjoy a calm, nature-filled winter escape just minutes from Norwich — making it a standout addition to Norfolk’s festive celebrations.
